Box Score The #2 baseball team upset #1 Staten Island, 15-11, in a wild affair on day two of the CUNYAC Baseball postseason tournament on Friday afternoon in Staten Island, NY. The Bloodhounds improve to 16-15 on the year.

The Dolphins started the game with one run in the first, one in the second, and three in the third to lead 5-0 after four full innings.

Sophomore Danny Wynne, making his second relief appearance in two days, came in to pitch in the third and did not allow a run through the next four innings.

In the bottom of the fifth, John Jay loaded the bases and junior Jurrel Diaz crushed a grand slam to right field to cut the deficit to 5-4. Junior Steven Catuogno then walked and with one out, senior Ryan Osborne drilled a two-run inside-the-park homer to center field to give the Bloodhounds their first lead of the contest.

The Bloodhounds were not finished as the next seven batters reached base via six hits and a fielder's choice to tack on three more runs. Junior C.J. Meyer, freshman Philip Bellomo, and Diaz all recorded RBI's as John Jay led 9-5.

The Bloodhounds added a run in the sixth and RBI double's by Catuogno and junior William De La Cruz in the seventh increased the lead to 12-5.

The Dolphins plated six runs in the bottom of the eighth to cut the lead to 14-11. Senior Ryan Osborne added a run in the top of the ninth on a wild pitch to add an insurance run for the Bloodhounds.

Sophomore Sean Napier came in for the final out in the ninth to pick up the save and complete the upset.

Wynne improved to 4-1 after throwing 5.1 pivotal innings. Diaz finished 2-for-5 with five RBI's and two runs scored. Osborne went 4-for-5 with two doubles, three runs, two RBI's, and a stolen base. Catuogno was 2-for-4 with a pair of RBI's and two runs. De La Cruz, Bellomo, senior Robert Moncino, and Diaz all picked up two hits apiece. Freshman Nick Jack pitched a scoreless inning in relief.

The Bloodhounds will once again face the top-seeded Dolphins in a rematch in the CUNYAC Championship on Saturday, May 5, at 12:00 pm. John Jay needs only one win to capture their first CUNYAC title since the 2008 season. If the Bloodhounds fall in game one, CSI will force a second game at approximately 3:00 pm for the CUNYAC Championship.
