In a back-and-forth tilt in the conference opener, the men's soccer team fought back to defeat the 2017 Champions Lehman College, 4-3, on Wednesday afternoon at Randall's Island. The Bloodhounds improve to 2-4 overall and 1-0 in the CUNY Athletic Conference. The Lightning drop to 2-5 and 0-1 in the conference.
Lehman got on the scoreboard first in the 33rd minute and would lead 1-0 at the half. Four minutes into the second period, sophomore
Nicholas Towler evened the score for his second goal of the year.
Approximately 10 minutes later, freshman
Chris Toledo recorded his first collegiate goal to put the Bloodhounds ahead 2-1. In the 79th minute, sophomore
Mark Shnadshteyn tallied his first of the season to increase the lead to 3-1.
The guests fought back to score two goals in the next four minutes to tie the game at three apiece. With two minutes remaining in regulation, freshman
Andrew DeCanio scored a game-winning goal to propel the Bloodhounds to a 4-3 win. It was DeCanio's first goal of his collegiate career.
Sophomore
Steven Towler picked up the win after making five saves. Sophomore
James Haddad and N. Towler were credited with assists.
John Jay outshot the Lightning by a margin of 18-12.
The Bloodhounds travel to the College of Staten Island on Saturday, September 22, for a conference match at 1:00 pm.
