New York, NY - The John Jay College Athletics Department is mourning the loss of its official Bloodhound, Guinness, who passed away on Saturday night.
"All of us at John Jay are so sorry for the loss of this very fine Bloodhound," Director of Athletics
Carol Kashow said. "Over the last several years, Guinness added to our pride at being 'Bloodhounds'. We thank him for his service both during his law enforcement career and his service as our mascot. We are very happy to report that while Guinness has gone, the line will continue as he will be a great-grandfather next month."
Guinness was a presence at all major events at the College including Homecoming, Athletics Banquet, the Annual Day of Giving, Open House, and Accepted Students Day.
He was always excited to be on campus and loved being around students, staff, and faculty members.
Guinness was part of the
Mid-Hudson Bloodhound Refuge. The refuge is a safe haven located in Dutchess County, NY for canines, specializing in retired search and rescue bloodhounds. The goal is to transition retired search and rescue bloodhounds into a family environment to enjoy their retirement. Additionally, they rescue canines from various shelters and providing them with training in the areas of tracking, search and rescue and therapy.
He will be missed by the entire John Jay College community.
