The #5 men's soccer team upset #4 Brooklyn College, 4-1, on Wednesday afternoon in Brooklyn, NY. The Bloodhounds improve to 6-10 on the year. The Bulldogs end the season with an overall record of 4-12-1.
John Jay got off to a fast start with a pair of goals in the first 11 minutes. In the ninth minute, junior
Mark Shnadshteyn found a loose ball inside the box and buried it into the back of the net. Junior
James Haddad was credited with the assist. Almost three minutes later, the Bloodhounds added another goal to lead by two.
In the 17th minute, freshman
Dilshod Baymatov slipped it past the goalkeeper to put John Jay ahead 3-0. The Bloodhounds defense cleared the ball out of the zone all half to hold the Bulldogs to a shutout in the period.
John Jay outshot the hosts by a margin of 5-4. Junior
Steven Towler made one save in the first forty-five minutes.
As the Bulldogs intensified the pressure to start the second, John Jay's defense continued to stand its ground. In the 91st minute, Brooklyn cut the deficit to 3-1 after scoring on a penalty shot.
Haddad sealed the victory for the Bloodhounds when he scored in the 87th minute to send the Bloodhounds to the semifinals.
S. Towler recorded the victory after making three saves. Hadded finished with a match-high six shots and a match-high three shots on goal.
The Bloodhounds will now face No. 1 seed Lehman College on Saturday, November 2, in the CUNYAC semifinals. Game time and location will be posted in the coming days.
