The women's basketball team lost to City College (CCNY), 86-63, in the opening round of the CUNYAC postseason tournament on Saturday afternoon at the Gaucho Gym in the Bronx. The Bloodhounds end the year with an overall record of 12-14, their best since the 2012-13 season. The Beavers advances to the semifinals and improves to 16-10.
Junior
Karen Rosario recorded her sixth double-double of the season with 10 points and a team-high 11 rebounds. Junior
Nyasha Howard finished with 17 points, seven rebounds, and a game-high four steals.
Sophomore
Jessica Gorman exploded for 17 points, shooting 5-for-10 from behind the arc, and six boards off the bench. Junior
All'aha Albright tallied nine points.
The first quarter went back-and-forth as the score was tied at five apiece with 3:37 left. CCNY scored the next four points but Albright and Howard followed with three free-throws to cut the deficit to 9-8 at the end of one.
Two minutes into the second, the hosts increased its advantage to eight. A jumper by freshman
Madison LaLone closed the gap to six however the Beavers responded on a 5-0 run. Heading into halftime, John Jay trailed 32-23.
CCNY broke open the game in the third by outscoring the Bloodhounds by a margin of 34-11. John Jay outscored the hosts in the final period, 29-20.
John Jay finished 22-for-66 (33.3%) from the field, 6-for-29 (20.7%) from behind the arc, and 13-for-20 (65.0%) from the free-throw line.
This game turned out to be the final one of
