The baseball team dropped a doubleheader against Lehman College, 10-2 and 14-13, on Friday afternoon in the Bronx. The Bloodhounds fall to 10-23 and 2-6 in the conference. The Lightning improve to 9-20 and 3-5 in CUNYAC.
In game one, junior
Danny Wynne homered to right center to tie the score at 1-1 in the top of the second. With John Jay trailing 3-1 in the third, junior
Sean Napier recorded an RBI single to cut the deficit to one. However, Lehman scored seven unanswered runs to take the opening game.
Senior
Steven Catuogno finished 2-for-3 with a run scored.
In game two, John Jay scored two runs in the first inning. Lehman evened the score but a sacrifice fly by junior
Joe Desilvio put the Bloodhounds ahead 3-2. The hosts scored four straight to lead 6-3 after three full innings.
In the top of the fourth, Desilvio picked up an RBI double to score freshman
Jake Walton to trim the lead to 6-5. Senior
Jurrel Diaz then crushed a two-run homer to right to give the Bloodhounds a 7-6 advantage. In the next inning, Walton belted a three-run homer to left field to increase the lead to 10-6. The Bloodhounds were not finished as in the same inning, Diaz blasted a three-run home run to left to put John Jay ahead 13-6.
Lehman plated four runs in the fifth to trail by four. With the score remaining 13-10 heading into the bottom of the seventh, the Lightning scored four runs to complete the sweep.
Walton went 3-for-4 with three RBI's and three runs scored. Sophomore
Angel Curbelo finished with a career-high three hits in four plate appearances. Hyde had two hits to now total 175 collegiate hits. Desilvio was a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs and a pair of RBI's. Diaz registered five RBI's and two runs scored.
The Bloodhounds close out the series on Saturday, April 20, at 3:45 pm at Fordham University. Before the game, the Athletics Department will honor seniors
