The softball team dropped a doubleheader to Lehman College, 6-2 and 8-3, on Tuesday evening at Fordham University in the Bronx. The Bloodhounds end the regular season 13-19 overall and 7-5 in the conference. The Lightning improve to 13-16 and 8-2 in CUNYAC.
Lehman scored three runs going into the bottom of the third of game one. With two outs, freshman
Julianne Graepel drove in junior
Natalia Nunez with a two-out RBI single to trim the deficit to two. The Lightning responded with three runs in the fourth. In the bottom of the sixth, senior
Inelza Salcedo recorded an RBI.
Junior
AnneMarie Rivera finished with a double and run scored. Sophomore
Tommi Mandell picked up two stolen bases. In the circle, Graepel tied a career-high with 11 strikeouts.
In the second game, the Bloodhounds scored in the opening inning as Graepel singled and stole second and third to create the first run of the contest. Lehman tied it in the second and then scored six runs in the fourth.
In the bottom of the fifth, Graepel singled in Mandell and later scored on a wild pitch for John Jay's second and third run. Graepel was 2-for-4 with a career-high and game-high four stolen bases.
Before the game, the Athletics Department honored seniors
Vienly Cabrera,
Star Manzueta,
Devika Prashad, and
Inelza Salcedo as part of Senior Day.
The Bloodhounds open up the CUNYAC Postseason against #1 Hunter College on Friday, May 3, at 11:00 am at the College of Staten Island.
