The men's soccer team defeated City College (CCNY), 2-1, on Saturday afternoon at Randall's Island. The Bloodhounds improve to 3-5 on the year and 1-1 in the CUNY Athletic Conference. The Beavers remain winless at 0-7 overall and 0-2 in conference play.
The first half went back-and-forth as CCNY outshot John Jay by a margin of 7-5. Both teams had scoring opportunities but junior
Steven Towler kept the ball from the back of the net. He finished the period with two saves.
Three minutes into the second half, the Beavers scored the first goal of the contest. The Bloodhounds responded right away by pressuring CCNY's defense. In the 51st minute, junior
Mark Shnadshteyn blasted a shot from outside the box for his team-leading fourth goal of the season.
John Jay was not finished. Seven minutes later, sophomore
Andrew DeCanio found a loose ball inside the net and buried it into the back of the net to give the Bloodhounds their first lead of the game.
DeCanio's goal would end up being the game-winner as S. Towler stopped all four shots he faced. The Port Jefferson Station native finished with six saves for his second victory of the season.
The Bloodhounds host Western Connecticut State on Wednesday, October 2, for a non-conference match at 4:00 pm at Randall's Island Field 83.
