The men's soccer team defeated Purchase College, 3-1, on Wednesday evening in Purchase, NY. The Bloodhounds improve to 1-1 on the season. The Panthers drop to 0-1 on the year.
The hosts scored the opening goal of the game in the 18th minute to lead 1-0. Approximately 10 minutes later, senior
Peter Ceesay tallied his first goal of the year to even the score 1-1.
Purchase outshot the Bloodhounds by a margin of 9-5 at the half. Junior
Steven Towler recorded three saves in the period.
Seven minutes into the second period, sophomore
Andrew DeCanio scored on a one-on-one to put the Bloodhounds ahead 2-1. Junior
Mark Shnadshteyn added an insurance goal with two minutes remaining to seal the victory for John Jay.
Ceesay finished with a goal and an assist. DeCanio and Shnadshteyn registered five shots and three shots on goal each. Towler notched the win after picking up four saves.
The Bloodhounds travel to Ramapo College on Saturday, September 7, for a non-conference match at 1:00 pm.
