NEW YORK, NY -- On Friday, October 1, 2021, over 40 student-athletes, coaches, and staff members gave back to the community by participating in the annual cleanup of DeWitt Clinton Park on the Upper West Side in conjunction with the NYC Parks Department. The event was also part of the college's commemoration of September 11.
"DeWitt Clinton Park is a really popular spot which means it is very important to the community," said Eddie Glass, Volunteer Projects Assistant for Partnerships for Parks. "Making sure this place is beautiful, usable, and safe for everyone who wants to use it is very important."
DeWitt Clinton Field, located at 54th street and 11th avenue, is the home practice facility for the Bloodhounds' baseball, softball, men's soccer, and women's soccer programs. Â
"It's a great opportunity to build community and give back to the field we use as our practice facility right around the corner from John Jay," Deputy Director of Athletics
Cat Alves stated. "This experience is so important for our student-athletes. When they are able to come together and give back and think about their purpose more largely as members of our community, I think it goes a long way in building skills that last a lifetime."
"John Jay's been a really incredible experience for me," women's volleyball's
Kristin Gretener said. "I learned a lot of new things and it's really nice to give back to the John Jay community."
