This week, johnjayathletics.com caught up with former student-athlete Jenna Hansen '12. Hansen was a four-year veteran of the rifle program from 2008-12. The Middletown, NY native was part of multiple MAC Rifle Championships and Big Apple Championships. After her senior campaign, she was named the John Jay College Female Athlete of the Year. Hansen was also a two-time recipient of the MAC Rifle Shooter of the Month award.
1) Where has life taken you since you graduated from John Jay College of Criminal Justice?
Well, with life comes twists and turns. I earned a Bachelor's Degree in Forensic Psychology, wanting to work with children in need. I eventually realized that I'd rather help kids in other ways in my spare time and am currently a Business Analyst for a fiber optics company.
2) What personal or professional accomplishment(s) are you most proud of since you graduated?
I'm simply proud of the person I've become. I've been through my fair share of trials and tribulations, but I still remain close to God and my family. I still love to give my all in everything I do, and I still love to help people in any way that I can. I'm looking forward to where my plans and hard work take me and can't wait to look back in another ten years!
3) What are you most proud of from your time as a Bloodhound?
Shooting is my passion. Being part of multiple championships and earning Female Athlete of the Year are definitely the top two.
4) What advice would you give your college self/current Bloodhounds?
Life may not always go the way you're hoping or planning, but everything happens for a reason whether you know that reason or not. Work hard, but don't forget to also go with the flow and enjoy!
5) What did you learn in your time at John Jay that has stayed with you in your post-collegiate life?
Coming from a decently small town over an hour north of NYC, attending John Jay taught me how to be independent and make my own path. Not only was I commuting almost every day, I was also working part-time. I met so many people who were juggling so much more than I was. It was an eye opener! My time spent at John Jay showed me that, as cliché as it is, you can do anything you set your mind to. Being surrounded by so many amazing people, fellow students and athletes, professors, and everyone else along the way, really helped drive me to do my best.
6) Are you still involved with sports? If so, how?
While I no longer shoot competitively, my favorite type of date with my boyfriend is our shooting range dates!
