BRONXVILLE, NY - After not competing in nearly two years, the men's soccer team fought hard in their season opener but lost to Sarah Lawrence, 1-0, on Saturday night.
The first 30 minutes went back-and-forth as neither team was able to find the back of the net. In the 37th minute, the hosts opened the scoring to take a 1-0 lead. At the half, the Bloodhounds outshot the Gryphons 6-4.
John Jay intensified the pressure in the second half but Sarah Lawrence continued playing tough defense. The Bloodhounds' best chance of the night came with 10 seconds remaining in the contest when a shot from inside the box whizzed right over the crossbar.
Freshman
Kevin Luciano led the offense with a game-high five shots and game-high three shots on goal. In his Bloodhound debut, sophomore
Jesus Perez tallied a pair of saves.
The Bloodhounds travel to Maritime College on Wednesday, September 8, for a non-conference game with opening kick at 7:00 pm.
