Women's Soccer Earns First Victory in 658 Days; Shutout SJC Long Island 1-0

PATCHOGUE, NY - In the Bloodhounds' first game in nearly two years, the women's soccer program shutout St. Joseph's College Long Island, 1-0, in the season opener on Saturday afternoon. John Jay's last victory came in the 2019 CUNYAC Championship on Saturday, November 9.

In the 19th minute, sophomore Jillian Golden found a loose ball and buried it from the right side past the goalkeeper for John Jay's first goal of 2021. After forty-five minutes of play, the Bloodhounds led 5-4 in shots. In her John Jay debut, graduate student Cyan Scott tallied four saves in the half.

In the second period, John Jay's defense tightened up to prevent the Golden Eagles from any prime scoring chances to hold on for the shutout. Scott finished with nine saves in the contest.

Junior Katie Healy registered a team-high four shots and a pair of shots on goal.

Congratulations to interim head coach Ajani Clunie on his first collegiate head coaching victory.

The Bloodhounds travel to Rutgers-Newark on Wednesday, September 8, for a non-conference tilt at 4:00 pm.
