Men's Soccer Erases Two-Goal Deficit But Late Goal By Brooklyn Ends Match In 3-3 Draw

Brooklyn, NY - The John Jay men's soccer team trailed 2-0 but scored a trio of second-half goals that looked to be the difference but a late goal in the 88' by Brooklyn's Benedick Augustin knotted the match at 3-3 as that is how the game concluded.

With the draw, the Bloodhounds moved to 4-9-1 overall and 3-1-1 in CUNY Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) action while the Bulldogs now stand at 1-11-2 and 1-4-1 in conference tilts.

A very physical match between the two borough rivals, John Jay was called for a foul inside-the-box that awarded the Bulldogs a penalty kick.

Jordi Hernandez stepped up and beat JJC's Tyler Solis to the right in giving Brooklyn the early 1-0 advantage.

The Bulldogs wasted little time in extending their lead, as in the 36' Augustin received a well-timed thru ball from Matthew Charniak and booted one past Solis for the 2-0 lead.

Brooklyn controlled the majority of the tempo in the opening frame, outshooting John Jay, 14-2, with Solis making six stops despite allowing the two first-half tallies.

In the early portion of the second half, a foul was assessed to Brooklyn in the box. Michael Fernandez calmly stepped up and was able to beat Hady Bakry to put the visitors on the board, trailing 2-1.

The two teams continued the physicality but John Jay found the equalizer. In the 71' Dominique Murphy setup Brayan Alvarez, who alluded a defender and found himself in front of the goal for the tying score.

For Alvarez, it marked his fifth goal of the season tying him with Justin Gharbin for the team lead.

Play continued to be very physical and chippy with both teams creating opportunities. The Bloodhounds were able to cash in on their chance in the 86' as it was Fernandez who put the visitors ahead, 3-2.

Hans Merilan and Justin Gharbin executed a perfect give-and-go as Merilan was able to spot Fernandez who buried the opportunity, giving John Jay a 3-2 lead.

Things seemed to sway in the favor of John Jay but Augustin would strike again for the Bulldogs, as he was able to get the ball from Alexander Mishiyev and best Solis to even the match at 3-3, which proved to be the final score.

The Bloodhounds will close out the regular season on Wednesday, October 19, as they will host Hunter on Senior Night.

The 2022 Senior Class will be recognized prior to the start of the match, which is set to kickoff from Queens College's Varsity Soccer Field at 7:00 p.m.
