FLUSHING, N.Y. (Oct. 22, 2022) – The tournament bracket is now set for the 2022 CUNYAC/HSS Women's Tennis Championship. Five programs with championship ambition will compete for the title on Thursday, Oct. 27 at the iconic USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing.
Hunter is the No. 1 overall seed in the tournament after wrapping up an undefeated regular season. The Hawks went 10-0 with a 5-0 mark against league opposition, claiming their first regular-season title since 2019. Angelina Catania is one Hunter's top performers this season, going 8-1 in singles play, highlighted by a perfect 8-0 record at No. 2 singles.
Baruch, the defending tournament champion, is the No. 2 seed in the field after an 4-1 record in CUNYAC matches. The Bearcats are led by last year's championship MVP, Ava Deguzman. The sophomore has yet to lose a singles contest in her intercollegiate career. Baruch also secured an opening round bye.
Brooklyn is the No. 3 seed in the tournament after finishing the regular season 2-2 against CUNYAC opponents. Saoirse Ebert owns a team-best four singles wins this season. The Bulldogs earned an opening round bye.
John Jay is the No. 4 seed, followed by Lehman to round out the bracket. The two teams will square off in the first round on Sunday, Oct. 23. The Bloodhounds won the regular season match meeting with the Lightning by a 5-4 score.
The semifinals of the championship is slated for Tuesday, Oct. 25, concluding with the final on Thursday, Oct. 27 at 3 p.m. The semifinals and final will also be played at the USTA National Tennis Center.
