Women's Tennis Season Comes To A Close In CUNYAC Semifinals; Falls To Top-Seed Hunter On Tuesday

Flushing, NY - The No. 4 seeded John Jay women's tennis team's season came to a close on Tuesday afternoon, as the Bloodhounds fell to the top-seed, Hunter, 5-1, at the USTA National Tennis Center in the semifinals of the CUNYAC/HSS Women's Tennis Championships. 
 
With the setback, John Jay finished the 2022 season with a 5-10 overall record and posted a 2-3 record in conference matches. The Hawks remain undefeated on the season, running their record to 11-0. 
 
Hunter will now square off against No. 2 seed Baruch in the championship match on Thursday, October 27 at the USTA National Tennis Center. 
 
John Jay's lone victory of the match came at No.1 doubles, as the tandem of Dakota Himaya and Sarina Moi bested Zaara Afida and Nikhar Rathi, 8-4. 
 
The Hawks earned a pair of 8-0 triumphs at No. 2 and No. 3 to take a 2-1 lead heading into singles play. 
 
Hunter's Angelina Catania secured a 6-0; 6-1 victory at No. 2 over Himaya to run the Hawks lead to 3-1. With No. 1 and No. 3 going unfinished, the top-seeded Hawks earned straight set wins at No. 4 and No. 5 to clinch the match.
