Men's Soccer Falls In CUNYAC Semifinals To Top Seed Baruch On Saturday

New Rochelle, NY - The No. 4 John Jay men's soccer team's season came to a close on Saturday afternoon in the 2022 CUNY Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) semifinals, as the Bloodhounds fell to the top-seed Baruch, 2-0.

John Jay finishes the season with a 5-11-2 overall mark. The Bearcats, who run their record to 10-5, will now take on the No. 2 seed Lehman in the championship match on November 5.

John Jay's Tyler Solis was tested early on as Jemali Zarnadze sent a shot on goal following a corner kick, but was up to the task, turning the chance aside.

The Bloodhounds first chance of the match came in the fourth minute as Lamarana Diallo fired a shot on target, but, Baruch's Kellen Sela was able to make the stop.

Baruch got on the board five minutes later as Arman Celebi finished his run after receiving the feed from Wessam Farag to give the Bearcats a 1-0 advantage.

John Jay had two chances as Jonathan Granados had his attempt blocked and on the ensuing Bloodhounds possession, Kevin Luciano misfired high over the goal.

Baruch netted their second goal of the match in the 37' minute as Farag was able to set up Zarnadze as the Bearcats doubled up their total, 2-0.

Hans Merilan nearly got John Jay on the board in the later stages of the first half, but, Sela was there for the stop.

In the opening minutes of the second half, John Jay was on the offensive, as Brayan Alvarez tried to push one past Sela, but his chance was stopped in the 54'.

Solis came up with big saves to keep the deficit within reach, as he thwarted Zarnadze's chance for a mulit-goal game in the 57' and would come up with a big stop on Celebi in the 62'.

With a little over two minutes left to play, Alvarez had a pair of shot attempts denied by Sela as Baruch came away with the victory.
