BROOKLYN, NY -- The baseball team earned its first victory of the 2022 season, and the first win of Head Coach
Ryan Osborne's career, on Saturday afternoon with a 10-7 victory over Lehman College in the second game of its CUNYAC opening doubleheader at Maimonides Park. The Bloodhounds bounced back to earn the hard-fought win after dropping the earlier game, 12-8. John Jay improves to 1-17 (1-1 CUNYAC) on the year while Lehman moves to 3-3 (1-1 CUNYAC) on the season.
After dropping game one due to a tough first inning, John Jay showed a ton of resilience and came back with an awesome performance in game two. With the game scoreless in the bottom of the fourth inning, freshman
Thomas Salerno came up with the bases loaded and crushed a bases-clearing triple over the right fielders head to spark the Bloodhounds. They ended up scoring six runs in the fourth, but the Lightning answered with five runs of their own in the top of the fifth. Freshman
Matthew Brennan toed the hill in the top of the fifth and induced a clutch double play to hold the lead, and eventually went on to earn the save.
Freshman
Juan Maldonado had a three-hit day including two RBIs and a run scored. Freshman
Ivan Massari had three hits, reached base safely four times, and scored four runs. Sophomore
Ismael Tatis had three hits and scored three runs. Freshman
Marc Weeks earned the win in game two after going 4.1 innings and striking out two.
John Jay will look to make it a CUNYAC win streak when they travel to the Bronx to take on Baruch at Ohio Field in a doubleheader on Friday, April 1. First pitch of game one is set for noon.
