NEW YORK, NY - The men's soccer team kicked off its 2022 season on Thursday evening with a non-conference contest against the Sarah Lawrence Gryphons at Randall's Island. Despite the Bloodounds taking an early 1-0 lead, Sarah Lawrence came from behind with three second half goals to earn a 3-1 victory.
Junior
Maksym Ivanov put John Jay in front early, after he found the back of the net after the Gryphon keeper failed to clear a corner kick from sophomore
Kevin Luciano. The Bloodhounds took a 1-0 lead into halftime, but Sarah Lawrence would score three unanswred goals in the second half to secure the win. With the score just 2-1 in the 80th minute, Luciano had a great chance to tie the game, and snuck the ball past the keeper and fired on net only to have a Gryphon defender dive in front and save the ball and preserve the lead. That would all but do it as Sarah Lawrence held on for the victory.
John Jay totaled 11 shots in the game, with nine coming on goal. Sarah Lawrence had just six shots on goal in the match.
The Bloodhounds will be back at it on Saturday, September 3 when they travel to take on College of Mount Saint Vincent. Game time is set for 8 p.m.
