New London, CT – The John Jay women's soccer team extended its unbeaten streak to five straight following its 6-0 road win at Mitchell College on Saturday afternoon.
For the Bloodhounds, who improve to 4-1-2 on the season, it was a milestone afternoon for senior midfielder,
Katie Healy.
The Merrick, NY native needed just one point to become the first-ever John Jay women's soccer player to reach 100 career points and she didn't waste anytime in etching her into the record books.
Three minutes into the contest,
Yomary Cordero sent a ball into the box as Healy was able to head it to back post to a waiting
Leylah Murad, who put the visitors on the board, 1-0.
The assist by Healy gave her the milestone moment, which also marked the 29th career helper of her career and fourth of the season.
Healy wasn't finished, as in the 30' minute she received the ball from
Brooke Fontaine and netted her team-leading fourth goal of the season, as John Jay went up, 2-0.
When play resumed for the second half, the Bloodhounds continued their offensive attack, as
Jillian Golden netted her first goal of the season six minutes into the frame as Healy recorded her second helper of the contest, which made it 3-0.
A pair of fouls to Mitchell gave the ball back to John Jay, who were able to capitalize on the chance. Fontaine spotted Healy as the co-captain notched her second goal and sixth point of the night.
The Bloodhounds notched their fifth goal of the game as
Morgan DeGlopper found the back of the net after gaining the ball from
Lucia Giangaspero for her first goal of the season as John Jay led by a 5-0 count.
The final tally of the contest came off-the-foot of
Galicia Monforte, who pushed one past Gemma Landry as John Jay secured the win and recorded the fourth shutout of the season.
John Jay continues its road trip as the Bloodhounds will travel to Centenary University on Saturday, October 1 for a 1:00 p.m. start in Hackettstown, NJ.
