Women's Tennis Picks Up 5-4 Road Triumph At Sarah Lawrence On Friday Evening

Bronxville, NY - The John Jay women's tennis team outlasted Sarah Lawrence, 5-4, in non-conference action on Friday evening.  
 
With the win, the Bloodhounds move to 2-3 on the season while the Gryphons falter to 1-3 on the year. 
 

Sarah Lawrence secured the first point of the match at No. 1 doubles as the tandem of Carrie Sun and Ellie O'Brian edged the Bloodhounds pairing of Sarina Moi and Kimmy Kim, 8-6. 
 
John Jay evened the match in No. 2 doubles as Dakota Himaya and Kenya Kisson cruised to a 8-1 triumph over Melody Valenzia and Catherin Whitman. 
 
Sarah Lawrence was awarded No. 3 doubles in taking a 2-1 overall lead in the match. 
 
The Bloodhounds took control of the tempo of the match when singles play commenced. Moi was able to get past Sun, 6-2; 6-1 in No. 1 action to tie the match at 2-2. 
 
Himaya followed that up with a 6-0; 6-1 victory at No. 2 singles over O'Brian as the Bloodhounds took their first lead of the day. 
 
Valenzia bested Kim, 8-2, at No. 3 as the two teams were tied at 3-3 heading into the final two singles matches. 
 
Kisson and Nitika Kamath were pitted in a back-and-forth match at No. 4. Kisson was able to record a 7-6 (7-5) first set win before following that up with a 7-6 (10-1) victory as John Jay went ahead 4-3. 
 
Cindy Liguicota clinched the match for the visitors in No. 5 play, posting a 6-0; 7-6 (7-5) win over Mary DeSouza. Whitman was awarded the win by default at No. 6 but John Jay claimed their second win of the season. 
 
John Jay closes out their two-match road trip on Tuesday, October 4 when the Bloodhounds travel to Farmingdale State. 
 
Opening serve is set for 4:30 p.m.
