Women's Swimming Sits In Third Place After Day One At CUNYAC Championship

Bronx, NY - The John Jay women's swimming and diving team sits in third place at the 2023 CUNYAC Women's Swimming & Diving Championship with 39 points. 
 
Hunter leads the five-team field with 98 points, followed by Baruch (41) and John Jay (39). The host Lehman College recorded 30 points on the first day followed by Brooklyn (19). 
 
"I am really proud of our team and how they competed on the first day of competition," commented head coach Miguel Escalante. "Bringing back medals on the first day of competition was a testament to their hard work. We will enjoy today and get ready for the rest of the weekend." 
 

 
The Bloodhounds kicked off the meet with a second-place showing in the 200 Yard Freestyle Relay, as the quartet of Diana Castellanos, Anika Amdahl, Cami Achury, and Miranda Perez posted a time of 1:56.31. 
 
Perez was the top finisher in the 50 Yard Freestyle, touching the wall first with a time of 25.61. 
 
Achury posted a top-five finish in the 200 Yard IM, finishing with a time 2:30.68. 
 
The 400 Yard Medley Relay team of Rina Yamamoto, Amdahl, Achury, and Perez took home a bronze-medal, concluding the race with a time of 5:00.41. 
 
Day 2 of the CUNYAC Championship is set to begin at 10:00 am.
