Women's Tennis Falls To Hunter On Senior Day To Conclude 2023 Regular Season On Friday Afternoon

Flushing, NY - The John Jay women's tennis team dropped their regular season finale on Friday afternoon to Hunter, 5-2, at the USTA National Tennis Center. 
 
The Bloodhounds finish the 2023 regular season with a 6-5 overall record and a 3-2 mark in CUNY Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) play while the Hawks improved to 5-5 on the season and 4-1 in league action. 
 
Prior to the start of the match, John Jay recognized their three seniors for Senior Day - Dakota Himaya, Cindy Llguicota and Gloria Glenn
 

 
Coach's Corner | Head Coach David Muchnick - "We want to thank Dakota (Himaya), Cindy (Lliguicota), and Gloria (Glenn) for their numerous contributions to our program both on and off the court. Their legacy will be felt long after they leave John Jay and will be Bloodhounds forever! We now 'erase the board' of the regular season and focus squarely on the upcoming CUNYAC Tournament, beginning on Tuesday. We are proud of our season so far, but far from satisfied." 
 
The Bloodhounds picked up a win at No. 2 doubles as the tandem of Sarina Moi and Cindy Llguicota defeated Grace Portuese and Julia Aksamentova, 8-4. 
 
The Hawks pairing of Angelina Catania/Anna Chapko outlast Antigone Alexander and Dakota Himaya, 8-7 (8-3) at No. 1 doubles before the pairing of Lily O'Heir and Sree Kolla got past Gloria Glenn and Manuela Orrego, 8-2, to take a 2-1 lead in the overall match. 
 
Hunter went up 3-1 in the match after O'Heir earned a straight-set victory over Orrego at No. 6 singles. Kolla made it 4-1 in favor of the visitors after a 6-1; 6-0 decision over Lliguicota at No. 4. 
 
Glenn put forth a valiant effort at No. 5 after dropping the first set, 6-2, she rallied in the match to force a tiebreaker against Portuese, but dropped the second set, 7-6 (7-3). 
 
Alexander earned her sixth overall singles win of the season as she bested Catania, 2-6; 7-5 and 10-4 in the super tiebreaker at No. 1 singles to give the Bloodhounds their second point of the match. 
 
No. 2 and No. 3 went unfinished in the second set with Moi leading 6-5 and Himaya mounting a comeback down 6-5.
