No. 4 Men's Soccer Season Ends In CUNYAC First Round As Bloodhounds Fall To No. 5 Seed Brooklyn, 2-1, On Wednesday

New York, NY - The No. 4 seeded John Jay men's soccer team rallied from a one-goal deficit to tie the match at 1-1 seven minutes into the second half but the No. 5 seed Brooklyn College Bulldogs netted home what turned-out to be the eventual game-winner in the 57' as the Bloodhounds fell, 2-1, in the CUNY Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) First Round on Wednesday afternoon. 
 
John Jay, who entered this afternoon's contest 4-0-1 over their last five contests, finishes the 2023 campaign with a 6-7-2 overall record and a 4-1-2 mark in league play.  
 
The Bulldogs, who now stand at 5-9-1 and 3-3-1- in league contests, will move on to face the top-seed Lehman College on Saturday. 
 
The Bloodhounds had an immediate opportunity for the first goal score of the match. Kevin Luciano lined up for the corner kick and sent one that found the foot of Mario Parano. Parano, with defenders swarming around him, lined up a shot, that found the waiting arms of Carl-Henry Obeissant. 
 
On the ensuing Bulldogs possession, Rayan Vukovic found space on the other end and booted a shot that knicked the top left of the cross bar, but didn't trickle into the back of the net, but inside cleared by John Jay. 
 
Brooklyn did break the stalemate in the 13' as Bradlej Cup intercepted the ball in the box, turned and booted a right-footed shot that got past Tyler Solis, giving the visitors a 1-0 lead on his ninth of the season. 
 
The Bloodhounds continued to produce chances as Brayan Alvarez and Justin Gharbin each had two attempts to tie the match but both were denied by Obeissant. 
 
Midway through the frame, Alvarez sent a feed that found the head of Gharbin, as Gharbin directed just over the net in the 29'. Alvarez had a chance just before the halftime break but Obeissant made the full-extension save. 
 
Both teams took nine shots in the opening stanza with Obeissant making six saves while Solis turned away three shots. The Bloodhounds recorded four corners in the half. 
 
When play resumed for the second half, John Jay mirrored their first half start and got rewarded in the early portion of the half. Alvarez sent a shot that was stopped by Obeissant a minute into the frame. 
 
In the 52' minute, Brooklyn was assessed a foul, that setup a free-kick from the left side for the Bloodhounds. Alvarez stepped up and blasted a frozen rope that got past Obeissant to the low-right corner of the net, tying the match at 1-1 on his fourth goal of the season. 
 
The jubilation from the Bloodhounds quickly ceased as six minutes later, the Bulldogs got the equalizer, as George Koufos found Vukovic on the give-and-go feed with Vukovic finishing as the visitors went ahead by one, 2-1, on his fifth of the season. 
 
John Jay had multiple chances for the tying score, as Alvarez sent a header wide before taking a corner kick that found the arms of Obeissant. 
 
In search of the tying-marker, Andrew Santos, blasted a shot from the right side in the 78' but Obeissant stepped up and made the stop. With ten minutes remaining in regulation, Jonathan Granados, got the ball on the left side and blasted a shot that just sailed high over the net. 
 
John Jay had one final chance in the 84' as Luciano raced to the corner and boot the ball that curled its way on net but Obeissant was there for the save. 
 
In the second half, John Jay outshot Brooklyn, 8-5, while five of those shots went on target. For the match, the Bloodhounds took 17 shots, 11 on goal while the Bulldogs took 14 shots and six of those were on net. 
 
Obeissant finished with ten saves in the match while Solis recorded four saves.
