Cambridge, MA - The rifle team concluded the 2022-23 season with the MAC Championships on the campus of MIT over the weekend. The Bloodhounds finished in third place in air rifle with 2,266 points and fourth in smallbore with 2,079. The United States Coast Guard Academy won both disciplines.
On Saturday in smallbore, freshman
Danny Canning continued her phenomenal rookie season placing second overall with a score of 557. Senior
Eric Lopez was John Jay's second finisher after tallying a 538. Rounding out the top four were senior
Leonard Lao (521) and sophomore
Rochelle Redwood (463).
On the next day in the air gun discipline, Canning capped off her sensational freshman campaign after registering a championship-high score of 580. Lopez finished three spots behind in fourth overall with a 570. Lao placed third for the Bloodhounds, and 12th overall, with a score of 556. John Jay's last finisher was sophomore
Natalia Alegarbes notching 520 points.
This match turned out to be the final one of
Leonard Lao and
Eric Lopez's collegiate career. The Athletics Department wishes them the best of luck in the future!
