Davenport, FL - The John Jay baseball team was shut out on Wednesday afternoon, falling to the University of Dubuque, 12-0.

John Spallin and Ethan Simaan had the lone hits on the day for the Bloodhounds, who fall to 0-4 on the young season.

Four Spartans finished with multi-hit performances, led by Hunter Hicks, who recorded a 4 for 4 day, driving in two RBIs and scoring two runs. Jake Cekander went 2 for 4 with 4 RBIs while Kyle Radi and Brandon Watkins each matched Cekander with two hits while Radi recorded two RBIs.

Marc Weeks was saddled with the loss after going four innings while his pitching counterpart, Patrick Rafferty tossed five shutout innings in which he recorded eight strikeouts and allowed three hits to get his first win of the season.

Dubuque opened the contest scoring three runs in the top of the first inning, capped by a two-run single by Hicks. The Spartans tacked on two more in the second on a two-run base knock from Radi before they scored a run in the third and fourth, respectively. Dubuque added four more scores in the top of the fifth in building an 11-0 lead following a bases clearing triple from Cekander. A wild pitch in the top of the seventh brought in the final run of the contest.
