FLUSHING, NY - In the second week of the CUNY Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) weekly awards, sophomore
Maleea Gallaspy was voted as the CUNYAC Player of the Week while freshman
Elika Rodrigues was chosen as the CUNYAC Rookie of the Week for the week of March 6 - March 12.
Gallaspy finished the week hitting .385 (10-for-26) with six doubles, eight runs scored, five runs batted in, and three stolen bases. The infielder recorded a hit in seven of the eight games as the Bloodhounds finished 4-4. Her biggest hit of the week came against SUNY Brockport at the Gene Cusic Collegiate Classic in Naples, FL. With the bases loaded and two outs in the seventh inning and John Jay trailing by three, the Murrieta, CA native smacked a bases clearing double to tie the game. Gallaspy would score the game-winning run on an RBI single by sophomore
Rylea Sandel. In the final game in Florida vs. MCLA, the sophomore was 3-for-4 with a pair of doubles, three runs, and a stolen base.
Rodrigues went 7-for-18 (.389 average) with six runs scored, five RBIs, and five stolen bases. In a game against Drew, the Las Vegas, NV native finished a perfect 2-for-2 with an RBI and stolen base. Against MCLA, the freshman went 3-for-5 with three runs batted and three stolen bases.
