Colorado Springs, CO - Freshman Danny Canning will represent the John Jay rifle program at the upcoming National Junior Olympic Rifle Championships, which will be held in Colorado Springs, CO from April 7 through April 20.

Each year, junior-eligible shooters (under 20 years of age) from around the country competed at their homestate JORC match in airgun and smallbore with the top finishers invited to the National Match in Colorado.

"I am proud to go to the JORCs as John Jay's representative because I know for a fact that if I didn't have my team and my coach's support, I wouldn't have made it this far," commented Canning. "They've helped me grow as an athlete and a person which has had a positive influence on my performance. I am going to miss them when I'm there competing but I know that I have the John Jay community cheering me on since they have been there from the start."

Canning fired a 580 in airgun back at the MAC Championships as she claimed the top spot in the discipline to lead the way for the Bloodhounds.

"While it will be a tremendous experience, I expect to have fun at least," added Canning. "The key for me is to treat this opportunity like another match. There is still a lot more after this chance, so I can't let pressure affect me."
