Baseball Falters On The Road At Manhattanville On Tuesday

Purchase, NY - The John Jay baseball team scored first before Manhattanville tied the game in their half of the inning. The Valiants tacked on three more scores in the bottom of the third before combining for 13 over the fifth and sixth innings to pull ahead from the Bloodhounds, 17-5, on Tuesday afternoon.

Michael Manzoeillo led the way for the Bloodhounds with two hits while Anthony Agosta and Ethan Simaan drove in an RBI each for the visitors.

Six Valiants produced multi-hits in the contest, powered by a 5 for 5 day from Joseph McDonald, who scored four times and drove in a team-leading three RBIs.

Jake Parisi added three hits and two RBIs while Marco Clara, Frank Delgado, Michael Matica and Gabe Astrologo each recorded two hits on the day.

The visitors got on the board first as Simaan reached on a fielding error by the third baseman that plated home Thomas Salerno, who was hit by a pitch, giving the Bloodhounds a 1-0 edge.

In the bottom half of the inning, Clara notched a two-out RBI single to left field that scored McDonald, tying the game at 1-1.

Manhattanville broke the stalemate in the bottom of the third, as McDonald plated home the go-ahead run with a single back up the middle. Joshua Gillison sent an RBI grounder to second that plated home McDonald. Delgado added a double to center field that made it 4-1.

Following a scoreless fourth inning by both clubs, Manhattanville pushed their to 11-1, thanks to a seven-run bottom of the fifth where they nearly batted around twice in the frame.

The Valiants carried that momentum into the bottom of the sixth, tacking on six more runs to go up 17-1.

John Jay sparked a four-run ninth inning. Saul Zoquier led off the ninth by reaching on a hit-by-pitch before moving into scoring position on the grounder from Tyler DeStefano. The next batter, John Spallin, was hit by a pitch and Thomas Salerno drew a walk to load the bases.

Manzoeillo reached on a throwing error by the pitcher as both Spallin and Zoquier came around to score. Salerno trotted home on a wild pitch before Agosta lofted a fly ball to right field, bringing in Manzoeillo.

John Jay returns to the diamond on Thursday, March 23, as they will travel to Farmingdale, NY to tangle with Farmingdale State.

First-pitch is set for 4:00 p.m.
