Montclair, NJ - The John Jay softball team dropped both games of their Thursday doubleheader on the road at Montclair State, falling to the Red Hawks, 25-1 in the first game and being edged out, 7-6, in nine innings.

With today's results, the Bloodhounds fall to 9-10 on the year while Montclair improves to 14-4.

Game 1 - John Jay 1, Montclair State 25
The visiting Bloodhounds got two hits in the opening game of Thursday's doubleheader, as Mackenzie Tresch and reigning CUNY Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) Player of the Week, Jailene Santiago, each had a base hit for the visitors.

John Jay got on the board first in the top of the first as Tresch scored on a throwing error by the centerfielder.

Montclair State batted around in their half of the inning, sending 13 batters to the plate while scoring eight runs on five hits. Stephanie Seretis and Alyssa Borozan each delivered two-run doubles to highlight the scoring in the inning for the home team.

The Red Hawks added to their lead, plating across five more runs in the second, as Kayla Cosentino brought in a pair of runners on a two-run single.

Montclair added three more runs in the bottom of the fourth before putting the game out of reach with nine runs in the bottom of the fourth, as they batted around with 14 players getting up to the plate while only getting two hits in the frame.

Nevaeh Echevarria was tagged with her third loss of the season while her counterpart, Ali Cavallaro, earned her seventh win of the season.

Game 2 - John Jay 6, Montclair State 7 (9 innings)
The Bloodhounds jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the first inning as Rylea Sandel ripped a single and moved to second on the throw that plated home Tresch, giving the visitors the early advantage.

Montclair State responded with two runs of their own in the bottom half of the frame, as Seretis connected on a two-run single.

John Jay regained the lead in the second innings, stage a five-run rally in building a 6-2 advantage.

Kelly Fajardo led off the frame reaching first on a fielding error by the second baseman. A one-out walk to Elika Rodrigues gave the Bloodhounds two runners on.

Tresch reached on a single that loaded the bases for Maleea Gallaspy, who promptly delivered a two-run single, giving John Jay a 3-2 lead.

Two batters later, Sandel cleared the bases with a three-run triple as the Bloodhounds expanded on their lead, 6-2.

The score remained that way until the bottom of the fifth, Seretis once again served as the catalyst for the Red Hawks, sending a double to center field and bringing in Liz Mullen, making it a 6-3 contest.

In the sixth, the Bloodhounds tried to add to their lead, but stranded a two-out double from Gallaspy. In the bottom half of the inning, the Red Hawks evened the score as Cosentino tripled and came into score on a throwing error by the second baseman.

The two didn't have many chances in the later stages of the contest, until Montclair State staged the walk-off win, as Mullen lofted a sacrifice fly to center field with Borozan tagging up from third and scoring the eventual game-winner.

Santiago took the loss, giving up seven runs (five earned) on 11 hits while striking out two and walking two. Her counterpart, Nikki Lusnia, tossed seven innings of shutout softball, allowing just four hits, a walk and striking out seven batters.
