Patchogue, NY - The John Jay softball team trailed 3-1 after three in game two of Thursday's doubleheader at St. Joseph's - Long Island but tallied three runs in the top of the fifth while tacking on two more in the seventh to complete the comeback and secure the doubleheader sweep of the Golden Eagles, earning a 6-2 win in game one and 6-3 in game two.

With the wins, the Bloodhounds improve to 13-10 overall on the season while the Golden Eagles falter to 1-11 on the season.

Game 1 - John Jay 6, St. Joseph's University - Long Island 2
Maleea Gallaspy continued her hot-hitting approach at the plate, as she collected three hits while Kelly Fajardo notched two hits and scored two runs. Fajardo and Mackenzie Tresch each drove in two RBIs in powering the Bloodhounds to their 12th win of the season. Rylea Sandel was credited with an RBI as well.

Samantha Dimezza led the charge for the Golden Eagles in the first game, recording two hits while driving in an RBI. Mariah Salvatto, Elena Serio, and Cailyn Rodriguez also added a hit with Rodriguez driving in a run as well.

Fresh off her perfect game performance, Jailene Santiago, who went 1 for 4 at the plate, earned her 10th win of the season, going the full seven as she surrendered two runs on five hits while walking two and striking out nine. Her counterpart, Alexa Tenety, also threw a complete game but was saddled with the loss, allowing six runs (one earned) on 11 hits, while walking one batter and fanning four.

Both teams were held scoreless after the first inning before the Bloodhounds broke the stalemate. Sidney Bankston reached on a fielding error by the Golden Eagles' shortstop. Fajardo stepped and rocketed a triple to left field that plated home Bankston. Tresch, down in the count at 1-2, laced a single back up the middle, scoring Fajardo as the visitors went ahead by two. St. Joseph's got one back in their half of the second, as Rodriguez sent an RBI single to right field, scoring Salvatto.

The Bloodhounds staged a three-run top of the third, building a 5-1 lead.  Santiago led off the inning with a double to left before advancing to third on a wild pitch. Sandel sent a sacrifice fly to right field that was bobbled by the right fielder allowing Santiago to score and extending the lead to 3-1. Sandel advanced to third on a passed ball before crossing the plate on an RBI double from Fajardo that made it a three-run advantage. Tresch posted her second RBI of the contest, sending a hard-hit grounder to second as Fajardo trotted home to make it 5-1.

John Jay added one more score in the top of the fourth. Gallaspy and Angelina Schoelles each singled before Gallaspy scored on a throwing error by the third baseman. Santiago continued to stifle the Golden Eagles bat until the bottom of the seventh.

Serio led off the frame with a double to right center but got Kate Kiernan to fly out to right. A walk to Rodriguez gave St. Joseph's a pair of runners before Michaela Andriola flew out for the second out. Up in the count 2-1, Dimezza doubled down the left field line as Serio scored, cutting the Bloodhounds lead to 6-2 but Kimberly Ehman popped out to third, giving the Bloodhounds the game-one win.

Game 2 - John Jay 6, St. Joseph's - Long Island 3
Tresch and Schoelles each produced three hits in the nightcap while Prince and Gallaspy each drove in two RBIs as the Bloodhounds came from behind to pick up a 6-3 win. Stansfield earned her second win of the season, tossing five innings in which she gave up three runs on three hits despite walking six batters. Santiago came on for the save, her first of the season, as she allowed one hit while striking out five batters.

Gallaspy reached on a one-out infield single to short before Schoelles singled up the middle. Santiago reached on an error by the shortstop as Gallaspy crossed the plate. The Golden Eagles wasted little time in tying the ballgame. Rodriguez reached on a fielder's choice to third as Fenezia was thrown out at home by Gallaspy.  Kiernan plated the tying run with a double to left field, as Ehman crossed the plate.

The Golden Eagles added a run in the second, thanks to an RBI grounder from Ehman, and another score in the third to go up 3-1 on the RBI grounder to first off the bat of Julia Ruocchio.

Following a scoreless fourth inning of play, the Bloodhounds completed their comeback, recording three runs in their half of the fifth, taking a 4-3 advantage. Santiago led off the stanza with a walk before Logan Stansfield pinch-ran for her. Sandel ripped a double to center field, as John Jay trailed 3-2. With one out, Kayla Sauers reached first on an error by the first baseman, as the Bloodhounds now had runners on the corners. Tresch popped out to second for the second out. Emily Sperl pinch-hit for Elika Rodrigues and was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Prince then connected for the go-ahead, a two-run double to left field, scoring Sauers and Sandel as the visitors claimed a 4-3 lead.

In the seventh, John Jay got three straight hits, but Tresch was retired trying to steal second for the second out of the frame. Gallaspy reached first on a fielding error by the first baseman, allowing both Prince and Rodrigues to score. Santiago shut the door to preserve the win for the Bloodhounds, getting Ehman to pop out to first before striking out both Salvatto and Rodriguez.
