New York, NY - Joe Burbridge has been named the John Jay softball interim head coach, Director of Athletics Cat Alves announced. Burbridge brings over 15 years of collegiate head coaching experience at the Division II level during his tenure at Dominican College and Adelphi University.
"Our softball program is in a prime position to continue trending forward," said Alves.
"With the addition of Coach Burbridge, we believe our student-athletes will continue to impress under his tutelage and experience."
Â
Burbridge has compiled an overall record of 459-293-1 (.620 win percentage) and has amassed a 291-87 (.788) career conference record.
Â
"Joe's passion for softball and his experience as a head coach stood out to us during the interview process," commented Deputy Director of Athletics, Brandon Fieland.
"I can't wait to see what the future holds for John Jay College Softball."Â
Â
Burbridge served as the head coach at Dominican College in Orangeburg, NY from 2007 to 2022 posting a 420-280-1 record with the Chargers. The team went 273-85 in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC).
"I am truly excited about the opportunity at John Jay," commented Burbridge. "The school is top-notch, and everyone has been incredibly supportive. I think we can do some great things here and I can't wait to get to work."
Under his guidance, the Lady Chargers made the playoffs in all twelve of his seasons while securing a top-three seed in ten of those 12 years. Burbridge earned his first Coach of the Year accolade in 2016, guiding Dominican to a 30-16-1 record and a 22-4 conference mark.
Â
In 2019, Coach Burbridge earned his 400th career win back on April 4 against Felician University, a 16-6 home triumph. In all, his teams captured four regular season titles (2009, 2010, 2012, 2013), and three post-season championships (2010, 2011, 2012) and made five straight NCAA Regional appearances (2009-13), which are the only ones in school history.
Â
Burbridge spent one season at Adelphi University before accepting the position at Dominican College. He led the Panthers to a 39-13 overall record and an 18-2 conference mark in 2007. The 39 wins set a school record when the Panthers won the ECC regular-season title and qualified for the NCAA East Regional. The team was ranked No. 8 by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA).
Â
Burbridge received his Bachelor's Degree in Communications from Ramapo in 2000 and a Master's Degree in Education from Seton Hall University.
