Flushing, NY - The John Jay women's tennis team returned to the courts on Tuesday for a second consecutive night, taking on non-conference foes, the Mount Saint Mary Knights.
The meeting between the Bloodhounds and the Knights was the first since 2006.
Despite multiple competitive singles matches, the Knights took the match, 5-2.
The Bloodhounds' second double pair of Kayla Santard and Rose Azzu were tied up at four games apiece when the Knights' clinched the singular doubles points.
In singles competition, John Jay's top singles set the tone. The Bloodhounds' Sarina Moi dispatched Mount Saint Mary's Victoria Valencia in two sets; 6-3, 6-1.
Santard played another competitive match in single play; taking the first set in second singles play against Autumn Strobach, 6-3, and winning the second-set tiebreaker, 7-2, to clinch the point.
Azzu pushed the Knights' third singles, Angelina Mainero, to the final games of a third set after winning the second set, 6-3. Mainero edged Azzu as the lights turned on at the USTA National Tennis Center, 7-5, in the decisive third set.
John Jay's Mariam Caraza was the other Bloodhound singles competitor to battle to a third set, falling after winning the second set against Paige Shrimpton.
NEXT UP: The Bloodhounds hit the road on Friday, Oct. 4 to face Albertus Magnus in New Haven, Conn. The match is scheduled to begin at 3:30 p.m.
