Baseball Falls To Cabrini University On Friday Morning

Myrtle Beach, SC - The John Jay baseball team dropped their non-conference tilt against Cabrini University, 14-4, on Day 3 of the Bloodhounds Ripken Experience in Myrtle Beach, SC. 
 
John Jay (1-4) got three hits from Quentin Bowman and Anthony Agosta with Bowman driving in two RBIs. John Spallin had two hits while David Michalski drove in the other RBI for the Bloodhounds.
 
Ethan Simaan got his first hit of the season. The Bloodhounds saw season debuts from Raheem Dolah, Joseph Salerno, and Dominick Rivera
 
Axel Kappes III (0-1) took the loss after making his first collegiate start on the mound, throwing an inning while giving up seven runs (four earned) and five walks with one strikeout. Michael Luongo tossed two innings in relief of Kappes, giving up two runs (one earned) on four hits while walking two and striking out a pair. 
 
Saujan Christie and Julio Reyes made their season debuts for the Bloodhounds with Christie going two-thirds of an inning and recorded his first collegiate strikeout. Reyes pitched the eighth, throwing an inning in which he gave up an unearned run and a walk.
 
Colton Narciso led the way for the Cavaliers, going 2 for 4 at the plate while scoring three runs. Dustin Sutton went 1 for 3 with three runs scored and drove in a game-high three RBIs. Ryan Dipper, Zack Brook, and Jacob Roberts each had two RBIs in the contest. 
 
Dom Marotta took the bump for Cabrini, going 1.2 innings in which he gave up three runs on five hits while striking out two and walking two batters. Blake Weinstein earned the win, tossing five innings, giving up an unearned run on six hits while also walking two and striking out a pair. Colin Stocklin didn't allow a run on just one hit in his 2.1 innings of work to finish out the ballgame for Cabrini. 
 
Following a scoreless top of the first inning, the Cavaliers struck for six runs in taking the lead. With one out, Brook drew a bases loaded walk for the game's first run. 
 
The next batter, Roberts, doubled to left field that brought in a pair as the Cavaliers went ahead by three. Brook came in to score on a passed ball, making it 4-0. 
 
Brady Campbell reached on a fielding error by Michalski in right field, which cleared the bases but he was thrown out at the plate on a perfect relay from Michalski to Agosta and Isaac Salazar placing the tag. 
 
John Jay cut the deficit in half, as Michalski brought in Hayden Tackett from third for the Bloodhounds' first run of the contest. 
 
With two outs, Bowman ripped a single back up the middle that plated Agosta and Salazar with John Jay shrinking the Cabrini lead to 6-3. 
 
Luongo started the second for the visitors and got the first batter he faced, Garrett Laraia. A fielding error by the Bloodhounds shortstop allowed Jaden Dickerson to reach, which moved Dustin Sutton to third. 
 
Dipper ripped a 1-1 single that plated both runners, increasing the Cabrini lead to 8-3 before Brook sent a double to left that plated home Dipper to make it a six-run advantage, 9-3. 
 
Following a scoreless third inning, John Jay got one run back in their half of the fourth. Bowman singled to left center before moving to second on a single to right by Spallin. 
 
Santo Anzalone reached on a fielding error by the Cabrini shortstop that plated home Bowman, making it a 9-4 contest. 
 
Marc Weeks came on for Luongo and walked the first batter he saw in Roberts. Weeks rallied back to strike out Christian Strickland before giving up a single to Narciso and walked Campbell, which loaded the bases. 
 
The next batter, Sutton, laced a triple down the right field line that cleared the bases before Laraia brought in Sutton on a RBI grounder to first, which propelled the lead to 13-4. 
 
Cabrini added their final run of the contest in the bottom of the eighth, as Narciso scored on an errant throw from Joseph Salerno, who tried to gun down Sutton stealing second base. 
 
The Bloodhounds will have a day off on Saturday before returning to the diamond on Sunday  morning, as they will play Penn State Dubois at 9:00 a.m. from the Polo Grounds.
