Men's Tennis Falls To Sarah Lawrence In A Hard-Fought Match On Tuesday Afternoon

Flushing, NY - Playing at the USTA National Tennis Center for the first time this season, the John Jay men's tennis dropped a hard-fought non-conference match to Sarah Lawrence, 5-4, on Tuesday afternoon. 

The Bloodhounds falter to 0-2 on the season while the Gryphons open up their season on a winning note at 1-0. 

John Jay opened up the match by taking two of three in doubles action as the tandem of Nikita Sadounichy and Deondre McKenzie blanked Clayton Miller and Simon Kopecky, 8-0, at No. 1. The pairing of AJ Esperanza and Samir Ghimire got past Nikita Knecht and Devin Derian, 8-4, at No. 2 play. Newcomers Nathaniel Barnaby and Massimo Leandri were outlasted at No. 3, dropping an 8-6 decision to Peter Fathi and Aidan Roney.

adounichy picked up his second singles win of the season, posting a straight-set win over Miller at No. 1 as John Jay led 3-1 

Kopecky posted a 6-2; 6-0 score at No. 2 singles to put the Gryphons on the board. Noah Morely got past Barnaby, 6-0; 6-3, as Sarah Lawrence tied the match at 3-3

Leandri earned a bit 6-4; 6-1 victory at No. 5 singles, giving the Bloodhounds a 4-3 edge, but that was short-lived, as Derian defeated Ghimire, 6-4; 6-3, to knot the match at 4-4 before Samu Gabor rattled off a 6-3; 6-3 match victory at No. 3 over McKenzie. 
 
The Bloodhounds will travel to Purchase College on Thursday, March 21 with start time slated for 3:00 p.m.
