Jailene Santiago Tosses Third Career No-Hitter; Bloodhounds Sweep Notre Dame Of Maryland On Sunday

Owings Mills, MD - Graduate right-hander Jailene Santiago tossed her third career no-hitter in the opener while freshman Lindsay Ogden posted her second straight one-hitter as the John Jay softball team blanked Notre Dame of Maryland University, 15-0 and 9-0 on Sunday afternoon. 

With the outcome, the Bloodhound run their win streak to five straight and move to 25-11 overall. The Gators fall to 19-16. 
Game 1 - John Jay 15, Notre Dame of Maryland 0
The Bloodhounds scored six runs over the first four innings before erupting for nine runs in the top of the sixth in defeating the Gators, 15-0. 

Santiago issued a two-out walk in the bottom of the second before retiring the next 13 batters in posting her third no-hitter of her career. The Albany, NY native struck out five batters in posting the no-hitter. 

Maleea Gallaspy collected four hits while Alyssa Cadolino and Santiago each had three hits while Cadolino drove in five RBIs and Santiago had three RBIs. 

Rylea Sandel, Sidney Bankston, Angelina Schoelles, and Kayla Sauers all recorded two hits in the opener. Sandel had two RBIs while Elika Rodrigues, Schoelles, Julie-Ann Cartagena, and Jordyn Prince were all credited with an RBI. 

Santiago delivered a two-out RBI single to right that started the scoring for the visitors. Bankston singled up the middle before Schoelles reached on an infield single that scored Santiago as John Jay led 2-0. 

In the second, Prince reached on an error by the shortstop and moved to third as Sauers scored. The next batter, Rodrigues, popped out to short that plated Prince which upped the lead to 4-0. A wild pitch in the top of the third plated John Jay's fifth run of the contest. The Bloodhounds continued their offensive output, as Cadolino sent a pinch-hit RBI single to left that scored Prince, making it 6-0. 

In the top of the sixth, the Bloodhounds batted around, sending 14 batters to the plate, scoring nine runs on 11 hits as they took a 15-0 advantage. 

Prince led off the sixth with a single and scored on the two-run home run by Cadolino. Gallaspy singled, Sandel doubled before coming in on the RBI single to center from Santiago that made it 10-0. 

Ciaran Iglesias singled to center that gave the Bloodhounds runners on the corner. Cartagena pinch-hit for Schoelles and delivered an RBI single to right field, which increased the lead to 11-0.  

Later in the frame, Cadolino connected on a two-run RBI single to left that extended the lead to 13-0. 
Sandel capped the scoring with a two-run single through the right side as John Jay held on for the 15-0 victory. 

Game 2 - John Jay 9, Notre Dame of Maryland 0

John Jay continued to find their rhythm at the plate, as Ogden kept the Gators at bay with the Bloodhounds securing their third straight shutout, blanking Notre Dame of Maryland, 9-0. Sandel had three hits in the second game with an RBI. Rodrigues, Gallapsy, and Bankston each produced two RBIs. 

Ogden collected her 11th win of the season, allowing just one hit while walking two and striking out seven batters. 

The visitors kicked off the scoring as Schoelles broke through with a run-scoring single up the middle, as she brought in Sandel to make it a 1-0 lead. 
In the top of the second, Rodrigues sent an RBI base knock through the right side that scored Prince. 

Gallaspy had a hard-hit infield single to third before scoring on a wild pitch that made it 4-0. Rodrigues got the scoring going in the top of the third, as she sent a single up the middle that brought in Prince for John Jay's fifth run of the contest.

Sandel reached on an infield single to short that scored Rodrigues before Bankston continued her consistent approach at the plate, singling to right that scored Sandel. 

Charlene Torres had the lone hit for the Gators in the bottom of the fourth, as she laced a two-out double. 

In the top of the fifth, Gallapsy found space through the left side that scored Cadolino for an 8-0 lead. Two batters later, Bankston lofted a deep fly to right that Gallaspy tagged up and scored on. 

The Bloodhounds gear up for their home finale at Bahoshy Softball Complex on the campus of Fordham University as they will host the St. Joseph's University - Brooklyn Bears. 

First-pitch is set for 5:00 p.m.
