Purchase, NY - The John Jay softball team is off to the best start in the program's history, winning their tenth straight game after sweeping the University of Mount Saint Mary Dolphins, 14-5 in game one and 9-7 in the nightcap.
The Bloodhounds move to 11-1 on the season, while the Dolphins drop to 3-8 overall.

Game 1 | John Jay 14, Mount Saint Vincent 5
The Bloodhounds got on the board before the Dolphins staged a three-run bottom of the first. John Jay rebounded, scoring eight runs over the subsequent three frames to hold on to a 14-5 decision.

Maleea Gallaspy and Kendal Bryant each had four hits in the contest, with Bryant driving in four RBIs in the victory while scoring a team-high four runs. Kelly Fajardo added three RBIs in the triumph. Lindsay Ogden improved to 4-1 on the season, tossing her fifth complete game of the year as the second-year Bloodhound gave up five runs on five hits and walked five but struck out ten batters.

Samantha Aviles led the way for the Dolphins with two hits, while Mirabla Sandez drove in two of the five RBIs for Mount Saint Vincent. Elizabeth Espinosa was tagged with the loss, giving up six runs (four earned) on three hits while walking five batters.

Gallaspy sent a one-out single to center before Rylea Sandel drew a walk. The next batter, Bryant, laced a single to left field that loaded the bases for Alyssa Cadolino, who brought in Gallaspy on an RBI grounder to third. The Dolphins got on the board in the bottom of the frame as Ireyshka Lebron doubled in Aviles to tie the ballgame at 1-1. The next batter, Sandez, connected on a two-run home run as Mount Saint Vincent went up by two.

The Bloodhounds trimmed into the lead as a double steal executed by Angelina Schoelles and Sidney Bankston was successful, with Bankston crossing the plate. In the top of the third, John Jay staged a four-run inning. With one out in the frame, Bryant reached on an error by the third baseman. A walk to Cadolino and a hit-by-pitch to Olivia Paoli loaded the bases for Bankston, who also drew a walk to tie the game at 3-3. With two away, Fajardo sent a triple to left that cleared the bases and gave the Bloodhounds a 6-3 advantage.

In the top of the fourth, Gallaspy doubled to left field before scoring on a Sandel ground that was misplayed by the third baseman. Bryant connected on the first of her two home runs of the day, making it 9-3. Following a scoreless fifth inning, the Bloodhounds tacked on another run as Schoelles brought in Bryant on the RBI grounder to first, extending the John Jay lead to 10-3.

John Jay continued its scoring prowess, adding four runs in the top of the seventh to go ahead 14-3. Sandel reached on a fielder's choice before Bryant connected on her second home run of the day and fourth of the season, making it 12-3. Bankston walked before Schoelles reached on an error by the first baseman, allowing Paoli to cross the plate. A wild pitch brought in Bankston to make it 14-3.

In the bottom of the inning, the Dolphins scored twice, as Aviles reached on an infield single to third before Sierra Romero scored on the fielder's choice.

In the top of the seventh, John Jay scored their ninth run of the contest, going ahead 9-3 before the Dolphins nearly completed the comeback with four in the inning, but John Jay was able to hold off the attempt, winning 9-7. After firing her sixth complete game, Natalie Graham moved to 6-0 on the season. Paoli, Sandel, Bryant, Graham, Bankston, and Fajardo all had multi-hits, led by three from Sandel. Bryant led the charge with three RBIs.

In the top of the fifth, she hit her third home run, as John Jay went ahead 4-0. The runs continued to pour in for the Bloodhounds, as Fajardo plated home Kiki Iglesias for the fifth run, and Elika Rodrigues reached on an error as two runs came into score.

UMSV got on the board in the bottom of the inning as Sandez sent a sacrifice fly to center that plated their first run before Colon ripped a single to right, plating the second.

Bankston connected on a two-out, RBI single to right field in the top of the sixth to extend the lead to 8-2. The Dolphins got their run on a sacrifice fly to center from Hart. Sandel continued her torrid approach at the plate, sending a single to right that scored Fajardo, who reached on a one-out walk.

UMSV generated a rally in their half of the seventh. Sandez, Colon, and Emma Capozucca all singled to left field before Sandez scored on the error by the Bloodhounds' third baseman. The next batter, Goerman, singled to right, scoring Colon and trimming John Jay's lead down to 9-5. Romero followed with an RBI single to right, scoring Capozucca, but Goerman was out at second on a strong throw from Bankston. Hart continued her hot hitting, sending a single to center that scored Aaliyah Dejesus as the deficit shrunk to two, 9-7.
