Men's Tennis Edges York, 5-4, On Monday Afternoon In Pivotal CUNYAC Match

Jamaica, NY - The John Jay men's tennis team secured a key victory at No. 6 singles as the Bloodhounds defeated the York College Cardinals, 5-4, on Monday at the York College Tennis Courts.

John Jay moves to 2-2 in CUNYAC and 2-7 overall, while York falls to 0-8 and 0-5 in conference play.
 



The tandem of Samir Ghimire and Davio Rossi-Levin earned an 8-3 triumph over Sangay Yoezer and Dylan Juela at No. 1 doubles.


York went up 2-1 after Altenor Molien and Abubakar Khamis edged Daniel Rosa and Vladimir Ruzanov 8-7 (7-3). 
At No. 3, the pairing of Mariam Caraza and Flor Caro fought valiantly but fell by an 8-6 count to Michael Martey and Firdaus Abdulai. 

John Jay fought back in the match, as Ghimire earned a 6-1; 6-0 triumph at No. 1 singles. Rossi-Levin picked up a 6-1; 6-3 victory at No. 2 over Molien as John Jay went ahead 3-2. Rosa made it 4-2 after a thrilling 6-2; 5-7; 13-11 triumph over Khamis at No. 3. 

The Cardinals rallied with wins at No. 4 and No. 5, setting up a match-deciding battle at No. 6 between Caro and Abdulai.

Caro edged out Abdulai 7-5 in the first set and finished the match with a 7-5 victory, giving John Jay the match.

The Bloodhounds will take on Hunter College on April 22 at the USTA National Tennis Center. First-serve is set for 6:30 p.m.
