Baseball Drops Doubleheader At Oneonta On Tuesday

Oneonta, NY - The John Jay baseball team fell to SUNY Oneonta Red Dragons in Tuesday's doubleheader, 7-0 and 4-2.

With the losses, the Bloodhounds fall to 14-16 overall while the Red Dragons move to 23-12-1.

Game 1 | John Jay 0, Oneonta 7

The Bloodhounds were held to just four hits for the game while the Red Dragons sparked a five-run in that helped pushed Oneonta to a 7-0 victory in game one.

Isaac Salazar had two hits for the visitors while Ethan Simaan and Anthony Agosta each had a hit.

Sebastian Sanchez took the loos after giving up seven runs (six earned) on eight hits while walking five and striking out a batter.

Matt Sandoval powered the offense with three RBIs while Josh Gilkey, Anthony Foglia, and Lukas Jachens each added an RBI in the victory.

Oneonta used four pitchers on the day with Tom Roefaro picking up the win after going four innings, giving up two hits, walking two and striking out five.

The Red Dragons sparked a five-run first inning with Sandoval delivering the big hit, a double down the right field line that gave Oneonta a 4-0 lead. Jachens singled Sandoval in to make it 5-0.

The Bloodhounds threatened in the second as Simaan led off with a walk before Salazar moved him to second on a single.

A wild pitch moved up both runners but Roefaro was able to strike out the next two batters. A walk to Axel Kappes III loaded the bases but Jaxen Gangwish grounded out to first ending the threat.

Foglia singled home Gilkey in the bottom of the second to make it 6-0 in favor of Oneonta.

The Red Dragons added a run in the bottom of the sixth on an error by Hayden Tackett that made it 7-0 as Oneonta retired the Bloodhounds in order in the top of the seventh.

John Jay jumped out to a 2-0 lead but Oneonta staged a four-run third inning to win by that count.

Santo Anzalone and Mark Piri each had two hits for the visitors with Anzalone and Simaan driving in a run.

Julio Reyes took the loss (1-3) after giving up four runs (two earned) on four hits while issuing four walks and a strikeout. Tyler DeStefano and Michael Luongo went a combined three innings without giving up a run.

Ryan Cronin had two hits and an RBI while Gilkey and Logan Hutter each drove in an RBI in the victory.

Dominic Colarusso went three innings to pick up his third win of the season. He gave up two runs on four hits while striking out three. Joshua Martin earned the save after a scoreless seventh inning.

Ryan Cherichella led off game two with a double and moved to third on the throw in. A hit to James Hordodyski gave the Bloodhounds a pair of runners.

Anzalone sent a hard-hit single to short that scored Cherichella. With one out in the frame, Simaan sent an RBI single to left, scoring Hordodyski.

Oneonta sparked a four-run third inning as Nick Jacoby reached on an error by Reyes on the sacrifice bunt attempt as Carroll scored on the play.

Gilkey sent the tying sacrifice fly to right, tying the score at 2-2. Cronin tripled to right field that gave Oneonta the lead before tacking another run on the Hutter RBI single through the left side.

The Bloodhounds will gear up for their final regular season matchups of the year as they will head to Flemington, NJ to tangle with CCNY on Friday, May 2 at 10:00 am for a doubleheader.

The two teams will then square off on Saturday, May 3 at Kean University for the Bloodhounds home finale on Senior Day at noon.
