Softball Drops Opening Game Of 2025 NCAA Division III Championship Against Host #16 Gettysburg

Gettysburg, PA - The 2025 and three-time CUNYAC softball champions, John Jay Bloodhounds, dropped their opening game against the No. 16 ranked Gettysburg College Bullets, 8-0, in five innings.

The Bloodhounds (30-10) will await the loser of the Ramapo/MIT game, as that will be an elimination game, currently set for 1:30 p.m. on Friday, May 16. Gettysburg (39-6) will take on the winner at 11:00 a.m.

John Jay was held to just three hits, as Elika Rodrigues, Natalie Graham, and Angelina Schoelles all had a base hit in the contest.

CUNYAC Pitcher of the Year Lindsay Ogden (13-5) went three innings, giving up seven runs (five earned) on seven hits while walking three and striking out one. Kiki Iglesias came on in relief, giving up one run on one hit.

The Bullets were paced by Audrey Bergan, who had two hits and drove in two RBIs. Elliana Hopple and Lauren O'Leary also had two RBIs in the contest while Renee Laczkowski and Anika Pelekis each drove one.

Paige Forry earned her 28th win of the season (28-5), striking out six Bloodhounds in the win.

The Bloodhounds threatened in the opening frame as Rodrigues reached on an infield single to short and moved to second on the sacrifice bunt by CUNYAC All-Star Rylea Sandel. Fellow All-Star selection, Kendal Bryant, had a chance to bring in Rodrigues but struck out swinging.

Gettysburg got on the board in the bottom of the inning. Jamie Shaw worked a walk before Hopple tripled to right field, scoring Shaw for a 1-0 lead. The Bullets tacked on two more runs in the bottom of the second, as Bergan produced a two-run single before being caught in a rundown to end the inning.

Gettysburg added four more runs in the bottom of the third. Laczkowski singled to center field that brought in Hopple. A double by Pelekis made it 5-0 in favor of the Bullets before O'Leary cleared the bases on a two-run single to center.

Hopple lofted a sacrifice fly to right field that brought in Bergan as Gettysburg increased their lead to 8-0.

In the top of the fifth, Schoelles singled up the middle and promptly stole second but was stranded as Forry struck out both Kelly Fajardo and Maleea Gallaspy to end the contest.
