Softball Sweeps Baruch For First Undefeated CUNYAC Regular Season Title

New Rochelle, NY - For the first time in program history, the John Jay softball team went undefeated in CUNYAC contests, finishing off the perfect 10-0 slate with a 6-0 win in game one and 14-0 (5 innings) win in game two over Baruch on Saturday.

The Bloodhounds finish the year at 27-9, while Baruch falls to 12-22 on the season. This marks the Bloodhounds' third straight regular season title and is the first time a CUNYAC finished the conference season undefeated since 2022, when Hunter went 20-0.

Game 1 | John Jay 6, Baruch 0
Sophomore pitcher Lindsay Ogden finished her second season with her 14th complete game of the year and fourth shutout of the year as the Bloodhounds earned a 6-0 win over the Bearcats in game one.

Three Bloodhounds had multi-hit games, led by Kendal Bryant, who went 3 for 3 with a run scored, a home run, and two RBIs. Elika Rodrigues and Kelly Fajardo each added two hits and an RBI.

Ogden allowed just two hits despite walking four batters and striking out nine in picking up her 11th victory of the season.

Baruch's Jules Wychunas had the lone hits for the Bearcats. Leilani Jimenez lost after giving up six runs (five earned) on eight hits while walking four and striking out six.

The Bloodhounds got off to a fast start. Rodrigues reached on a one-out single to right before moving to second on the Rylea Sandel ground out. A wild pitch moved her to third before Bryant launched her conference-leading tenth home run of the season, giving John Jay a 2-0 lead.

The visitors added a run in the top of the second. Sidney Bankston walked and moved to second on an error by the Baruch shortstop. Fajardo singled to left with two outs and moved to second on the throw-in as Bankston scored.

John Jay added a run in the top of the fourth as Rodrigues singled to center and scored Angelina Schoelles, making it 4-0.

Rodrigues was again the catalyst of two more runs scoring for the Bloodhounds, as she reached first on an error by the third baseman off a bunt, as Maleea Gallaspy and Schoelles scored.

Game 2 | John Jay 14, Baruch 0 (5 innings)

The Bloodhounds' offense carried the momentum from game one to the nightcap as John Jay scored five runs in each of the first two innings en route to a 14-0 win in five innings.

CUNYAC Pitcher of the Week Natalie Graham matched Ogden as she picked up her 11th win of the season and, recorded her 1,5th complete game of the year and fourth shutout. Graham allowed three hits without a walk and struck out two.

Gallaspy, Rodrigues, and Graham each had two hits in the contest with two. Bankston drove in a team-best three RBIs while Sandel and CUNYAC Player of the Week Olivia Paoli added two RBIs in the victory.

Jimenez, Bridget Campanelli and Milagros Arias had a hit for Baruch. Caroline Gallagher took the loss.

The Bloodhounds got back-to-back hits from Gallaspy and Rodrigues to start the game. Sandel reached first on an error from the shortstop as Gallaspy scored. Graham helped her cause with an RBI grounder to short as Rodrigues crossed the plate.

A walk to Paoli gave the Bloodhounds runners on first and second before Bankston cleared the bases with a three-run home run as John Jay led 5-0.

In the top of the second, Fajardo reached on a fielding error by the first baseman before coming into score on the RBI triple from Gallaspy that made it 6-0. Rodrigues reached base on an error from the third baseman that plated home Gallaspy. Rodrigues stole third and scored on another miscue that made 8-0.

Bryant and Graham each singled before Paoli doubled them in, increasing the lead to 10-0.

The runs continued for the Bloodhounds, as in the top of the third, Sandel tripled in both Rodrigues and Fajardo, upping the advantage to 12-0. Later in the inning, Bryant grounded out to short that scored Sandel to make it 13-0.

Kiki Iglesias grounded out to first that scored Jordyn Prince in the top of the fifth. Graham worked a seamless bottom of the frame to give John Jay their third regular season title and first undefeated conference season.
