Brooklyn, NY - The No. 1 seed John Jay softball team punched their ticket to the championship game for the third straight season, as they defeated the No. 3 seed Brooklyn College Bulldogs, 7-1.

The Bloodhounds move to 29-9 overall and await the Baruch/Brooklyn game winner, which will commence on Saturday, May 10 at 11:00 a.m.

Initially, play was to resume tomorrow, May 9, but inclement weather forced the postponement until Saturday.

Maleea Gallaspy and Sidney Bankston led the way with two hits each, while Rylea Sandel drove in a team-high three RBIs. Oliva Paoli added two RBIs while Gallaspy and Bankston added one RBI.

Kiki Iglesias notched her third complete game of the season, moving her record to 5-0 after allowing just the one run on five hits, walking two and striking out two.

Brooklyn's Ashly Konner had two hits while Paige Alaia-Palacios, Sage Bernstein, and Molly Martin each had a hit. Martin helped her cause, driving in the lone RBI for the Bulldogs. Martin allowed seven runs (five earned) on eight hits inside the circle while walking seven and striking out a batter.

Iglesias allowed a leadoff bunt single to Alaia-Palacios to start the game. Lianna Gonzalez was hit by a pitch to give Brooklyn a pair of runners. Vida Rodriguez grounded into the inning-ending 6-4-3 double play.

The Bloodhounds scored twice in their half of the first. Gallaspy was hit by a pitch before being retired on Sandel reached on a fielder's choice. Kendal Bryant walked, and she and Sandel moved to second and third, respectively. The next batter, Olivia Paoli, singled to right center, plating both runners as John Jay went ahead 2-0.

John Jay added a run in the bottom of the second as Gallaspy flew out to left field, scoring Angelina Schoelles, who started the inning with a single to right field. The defending two-time champions tacked on a run in the bottom of the third. Bryant led off the inning with a single to left. Paoli advanced her to second on a sacrifice bunt before Natalie Graham flew out to right, allowing Bryant to tag up.

Bankston ripped a single to center field that plated home Bryant, as John Jay built their lead up to 4-0.
In the bottom of the fourth, Kelly Fajardo reached on an error by the third baseman before Gallaspy sent a base hit to give John Jay runners on first and second.

With one out, Sandel connected on a double down the left field line, scoring both runners as the Bloodhounds led 6-0.

John Jay tacked on one more run in the bottom of the fifth as Sandel drew a bases-loaded walk that scored Bankston, who started the frame with a single to right.

With two outs in the top of the seventh, Konner singled to right field before Martin connected on a single to right center, plating their first run of the game. Iglesias induced a ground to short as Sandel fired a strike to Schoelles at first, sealing John Jay's ticket to Saturday's championship game.
