Men's Soccer Falls To Purchase, 4-2, In Home Opener On Saturday Afternoon

New York, NY - The John Jay men's soccer team concluded their first slew of matches on Saturday afternoon as they welcomed Purchase College, but couldn't complete the comeback as the Bloodhounds fell by a 4-2 count to the Panthers.

John Jay falls to 0-2 on the season, while Purchase won their season debut match.

Junior tri-captain Josh Clemas provided both goals for the Bloodhounds, including a composed penalty kick in the 17th minute, which leveled the match at 1-1. The Auckland, New Zealand native later added his second tally in the 88th minute, but it was not enough to overcome the Purchase attack that found the back of the net four times.

The Panthers got on the board first when Luca Li Vigni netted the first score of the game off the feed from Parker Lewis.

Following Clemas' goal in the 17th, the visitors regained the lead just before halftime, as Outman Ait Sidi Ahmed hit on a penalty kick of his own, giving Purchase a 2-1 lead.

The visitors continued to be on the attack, extending their advantage to 3-1 in the 60th minute with Yahir Tafoya finding the back of the net before Oliver Broun added an insurance marker with just two minutes left in regulation.

Clemas netted his second goal of the game from point-blank range, but the comeback attempt was halted there.

Statistically, Purchase held a narrow edge in total shots (13-11) and corners (4-3) while both sides registered seven shots on target.

The Bloodhounds will head to Kings Point, NY to tangle with Merchant Marine Academy on September 3 before leaving for Virigina on September 5 and 6.
