Women's Soccer Plays To Scoreless Draw At Penn State Brandywine On Saturday

Media, PA - The John Jay women's soccer team controlled possession and outshot Penn State Brandywine, but neither team could get on the scoreboard and finished in a 0-0 draw on Saturday afternoon.

John Jay (4-1-1) fired 11 shots while limiting Brandywine (3-1-1) to just four attempts.

Despite the advantage in chances, the Bloodhounds were unable to break through against Brandywine goalkeeper Jasmin Alvarez, who finished with six saves. John Jay goalkeeper Anina Gut anchored the Bloodhounds' defense, recording one save.

The Bloodhounds recorded ten shots in the first half and had a pair of chances four minutes into the contest. Sofia Soler fired a chance in the first two minutes, and Ava Lopez sent a chance that Alvarez was there to stop in the fourth minute. Lilith Eaton fired a shot that found the waiting arms of Alvarez in the 8th minute. Five minutes later, Lopez created separation and booted a ball that Alvarez denied. 

In the 24th minute, Jerlynn Castillo sent a chance, but Alvarez remained diligent in goal for PSU, stopping the Bloodhound attack. In the 40th minute, Yamile Bastidas launched an attempt but went high over the goal. 

The Bloodhound nearly had the first goal of the match in the 65th as Bastidas got away from her defender and sent a shot, but Alvarez was there for the denial.

Penn State had its first chance of the fixture in the 80th minute, when Hope Priemon sent a shot on goal, but Gut was there to make the stop. 

The result marks John Jay's fourth shutout of the season.

The Bloodhounds will gear up for their midweek contest when they host the #RV NYU Violets on Randall's Island - Field 10. 

Kickoff is slated for 3:45 p.m.
