Bronx, NY - The John Jay men's soccer team jumped out to a two-goal advantage in the opening 15 minutes, but Lehman rallied with three unanswered goals as the Bloodhounds fell, 3-2, in CUNY Athletic Conference action Saturday morning at South Field.
John Jay (4-6-0, 0-2-0 CUNYAC) outshot Lehman, 11-6, including a 7-5 advantage in shots on goal, but the Lightning (2-3-2, 1-0-1 CUNYAC) scored twice in the second half to complete the comeback.
The Bloodhounds wasted little time taking control of the match, scoring twice in a span of just 66 seconds.
Daniel Mansur opened the scoring in the 14th minute, finding the back of the net at 13:53 for his second goal of the season to give John Jay a 1-0 advantage.
Just 1:06 later,
Adrian Sudol doubled the lead. The junior struck at 14:59 for his first goal of the campaign, putting the Bloodhounds ahead 2-0 less than 15 minutes into the contest.
John Jay continued to apply pressure following the two quick goals. Sudol nearly added another in the 18th minute, but Lehman goalkeeper Matthew Strainz made the save.
Sebastian Leja put another attempt on target in the 22nd minute before Strainz again kept the Bloodhounds from extending the lead.
Lehman cut the deficit in half at 30:42 when Ibrahim Kone scored his first goal of the season, sending John Jay into halftime with a 2-1 advantage.
The Bloodhounds generated eight shots and put five on goal over the opening 45 minutes while holding Lehman to three shots.
John Jay threatened immediately after the break when
Helmer Herrera put a shot on frame just 19 seconds into the second half, but Strainz came up with the save.
The Lightning found the equalizer in the 63rd minute. Joseph Ebene Adeagbo converted at 62:07 off assists from Ashraf Abubakar and Osmar Mendez, leveling the contest at 2-2.
John Jay looked to regain the advantage, with
Sekou Sheriff putting a shot on goal in the 77th minute, but Strainz made his fifth save of the afternoon.
Lehman completed the comeback at 80:16. Amidou Kone scored off an assist from Abubakar to give the Lightning their first lead of the match, 3-2.
The Bloodhounds were unable to produce the equalizer over the final 9:44 as Lehman held on for the conference victory.
John Jay finished with an 11-6 advantage in shots and a 7-5 edge in shots on goal. Sheriff led the Bloodhounds with a match-high four shots, while Sudol finished with two shots, both on target, and a goal.
Mansur, Herrera, Leja and
Andrew Provenzano each registered a shot on goal for John Jay. Mansur and Sudol accounted for the Bloodhounds' two goals.
In net, Davio Rossi-Levin played all 90 minutes and recorded two saves. Strainz made five stops for Lehman.
The Bloodhounds will travel to Jamaica, NY on Saturday, October 10 as they square off against the York College Cardinals. Kickoff is slated for noon.
