Brooklyn, NY - The John Jay women's cross country team turned in a strong performance at the Cannoneer Challenge on Wednesday morning at Prospect Park, earning three head-to-head victories behind five Bloodhounds finishing among the top 11 overall in the 4K race.
Senior
Skylah Nix led the way for John Jay, crossing the finish line in 18:45.3 to place fourth overall among the 30-runner field. Nix averaged 7:31.9 per mile over the 2.49-mile course.
John Jay posted a combined time of 1:43:14 from its top five finishers, with just 3:08.6 separating the Bloodhounds' first and fifth scoring runners.
The Bloodhounds earned head-to-head victories over Medgar Evers, Baruch and Saint Elizabeth, while falling by just five points to Pratt.

John Jay's depth was on full display following Nix's fourth-place performance. Senior

Manuela Orrego made it four consecutive John Jay finishers inside the top 10, clocking 20:55.5 to place 10th overall. Junior
Laisha Gomez completed John Jay's scoring five with an 11th-place showing, finishing in 21:53.9. The quartet of Belov, Johnson, Orrego and Gomez crossed the line within 1:08.7 of one another.
Senior
Litzy Hernandez rounded out the Bloodhounds' competitors, posting a time of 28:52.6 to finish 24th overall.

John Jay's top-five cumulative time of 1:43:14 was the fastest among the five teams competing, ahead of Pratt (1:46:25), Baruch (1:57:07), Medgar Evers (1:58:45) and Saint Elizabeth (2:29:35).
The Cannoneer Challenge marked the Bloodhounds' second competition in four days after racing at the Queensborough Invitational on Sunday at Van Cortlandt Park.
