Baseball Falls To Grove City On Second Day Of RussMatt Invitational

Davenport, FL - The John Jay baseball team returned to the diamond following a day off and produced a season-high nine runs, but fell to Grove City, 23-9.

The Bloodhounds had three hits on the day, led by Hayden Tacektt, Jaxen Gangwish, and Jayden Dixon, while the trio also drove in an RBI each. Alex Daly took the loss in his first start of the season.

Colin Marinpetro led the Wolverines with four hits, four runs scored, and four RBIs. Adam Weber chipped in three RBIs while David Chandler collected three hits. Ethan Lingrell took the mound and went two innings before giving way to Jack Houston, who picked up the win after firing three innings of one-hit ball.

Grove City scored eight runs over the first two innings before John Jay answered back in the bottom of the second. Tackett scored on a wild pitch before Dixon sent an RBI single to third that scored Gangwish. Newcomer Matthew Apostolou sent a hard-hit grounder to third that was bobbled by the third baseman, scoring Dixon for John Jay's third run of the inning.

Each team added a run in their half of the third, as Gangwish delivered an RBI triple to right field, scoring Tackett.

Grove City went on the offensive, scoring three runs in the top of the fifth, eight in the sixth, and three more in the seventh to run their lead to 23-4.

In the bottom of the seventh, Isaac Salazar led off with a walk before stealing home. Dixon followed suit with a steal of home. Sebastian Sanchez roped a liner that plated home Apostolou as Stierer misplayed the ball at short. Tackett added an RBI grounder to left before an error brought home Sanchez for the final run of the contest.

The Bloodhounds close out their five-game Florida trip with a doubleheader against Anna Maria on Saturday.
