Softball Secures First Win Under Head Coach Sarah Piening Against Allegheny; Blanked By RPI In Game Two

Clermont, FL - The John Jay softball team trailed 2-1 heading into the final inning before the Bloodhounds rallied for two runs and defeated Allegheny, 3-2, in the first game of the day on Monday morning at The Spring Games.
 
John Jay was blanked and no-hit against RPI in the second contest,

The Bloodhounds move to 1-4 on the season and will close out their Florida trip tomorrow morning at 10:00 a.m. against Marian.

Game 1 | John Jay 3, Allegheny 2
The Bloodhounds trailed 2-0 after three innings but the Bloodhounds scored a run in the fourth and scored the tying and go-ahead runs in the top of the seventh to hold on a for a 3-2 win. The victory marked the first win of the season for the Bloodhounds and is the first win for head coach Sarah Piening.
 
Natalie Graham went 2 for 4 with an RBI while Kiki Iglesias drove in the go-ahead RBI. Elika Rodrigues, Kendal Bryant, Alyssa Cadolino, Natalie Polanco, Sidney Bankston had a hit. Graham earned the win after tossing all seven innings, giving up seven hits, two runs, a walk and striking out three batters. 

Jayla Jones went 3 for 3 with an RBI to pace the Gators offense. Julia Perillo had two hits while Samantha Phillips and Lauren Folino each had a hit. Madison Husle took the loss, going the full seven, giving up seven hits, three unearned runs while striking out four. 

In the bottom of the second, Allegheny put up two runs on back-to-back RBI singles from Jones and Phillips. In the top of the fourth, the Bloodhounds cut the lead in half, as Graham sent a single up the middle that scored Rodrigues.

Heading into the final inning, Bankston was hit by a pitch. Kelly Fajardo reached first on a fielding error with Bankston coming into score on a throwing error by the second baseman to tie the game at 2-2.

The next batter, Iglesias, sent a hard-hit grounder to second, scoring Fajardo. Graham got the first two batters out before giving up a single to Jones.

Phillips stepped in as the potential winning run but stranded the tying run in Tomkowski as Phillips popped out to short to end the game.

Game 2 | RPI 9, John Jay 0
The Bloodhounds struggled in game two against RPI, as John Jay was blanked and were held hitless by Ava Markert and Jackie Cutting. 

Markert went the first three innings, walking one and striking out two while Cutting struck out one in two innings.

Gaby Heim and Maddy Brooks each had two hits and two runs scored. Evann McDowell and Addison Shaffer drove in two RBIs to lead the offense.
