Baseball Falls To Farmingdale State On Thursday Afternoon

Farmingdale, NY - A decisive third-inning surge proved to be the difference on Thursday afternoon as the John Jay baseball team fell to the Farmingdale State Rams, 26-5.

John Jay (1-15) struck first in the opening frame, capitalizing on early traffic as Isaac Salazar delivered an RBI single to center to plate Sebastian Sanchez and give the Bloodhounds a 1-0 lead. However, Farmingdale State (6-5) responded immediately with a pair of runs in the bottom half and never relinquished control.

The Rams extended their lead with a three-run second inning before breaking the game open in the third. Farmingdale State sent 15 batters to the plate in the inning, scoring 11 runs on eight hits, highlighted by a three-run home run from Ryan Plocker and a bases-clearing double from Dom Lafroscia.

Trailing 16-2 after three innings, the Bloodhounds continued to battle offensively. Lucas Perez drove in a run with an RBI double in the third, while Julian Diaz added an RBI single in the fourth. Hayden Tackett chipped in with an RBI double in the fifth, and James Horodyski drove in a run in the eighth to round out the scoring.

Sebastian Sanchez paced the offense with a 2-for-2 performance and three runs scored, while Salazar added two hits and an RBI. Jose Suero also contributed with a pair of hits off the bench as John Jay finished with 10 hits on the afternoon.

Farmingdale State continued to add on with a six-run fourth inning and a three-run seventh, finishing with 26 runs on 26 hits. Aiden Mehmel led the Rams with a four-hit, four-run performance, while Christopher Sais drove in four runs, including a three-run triple in the seventh. Vincent Deiosso and Plocker each homered in the contest.

The Bloodhounds utilized six pitchers in the game, while Farmingdale State's Carmine Scardina earned the win in relief.

The Bloodhounds have altered its schedule and will not be playing CCNY at Clover Stadium on Friday afternoon but will back on the diamond on Saturday, March 28 as they square off against Centenary University (NJ) in Hackettstown, NJ at Our Diamond of Dreams). First pitch is set for 2:00 p.m.

The John Jay/CCNY conference tilt will be rescheduled at a later date.
