Defending 3X CUNYAC Champs Open League Play With Sweep Of Brooklyn On Wednesday

Brooklyn, NY - The defending three-time CUNYAC softball champions, the John Jay Bloodhounds, swept the Brooklyn College Bulldogs, 4-2, and 10-4 to open up conference play on Wednesday afternoon.

Game 1: John Jay 4, Brooklyn 2
John Jay leaned on timely hitting and a dominant outing in the circle from Lindsay Ogden to take the opener.

The Bloodhounds broke through in the third inning as Kendal Bryant sparked the rally with a double before Samantha Santana delivered a two-out, two-RBI single to center, giving John Jay a 2-0 lead. From there, Bryant continued to stay red-hot, adding RBI doubles in both the fifth and seventh innings.

Brooklyn capitalized on a defensive miscue in the fifth to plate two unearned runs and cut the deficit to one, but John Jay answered late to regain control.

Ogden (5-6) was the difference-maker, tossing a complete game while allowing just five hits and no earned runs, striking out eight and working out of multiple jams. Bryant led the offense, going 3-for-4 with three doubles and two RBIs, while Kelly Fajardo scored three runs and reached base consistently at the top of the lineup.

Brooklyn was led by Katelyn Young's two-hit effort despite the Bulldogs stranding 10 runners

Game 2: John Jay 10, Brooklyn 4
The Bloodhounds carried the momentum of game one's triumph into the nightcap, as John Jay came out swinging, plating three runs in the first inning behind Santana's two-RBI single and an aggressive baserunning sequence that led to another run. The Bloodhounds followed with two more in the second and never looked back.

The fourth inning featured heads-up play as Natalie Graham delivered an RBI single and later helped execute a double steal that saw Fajardo swipe home, extending the lead to 7-0.

The knockout punch came in the fifth inning when Kiki Iglesias ripped a bases-clearing double to left-center, pushing the advantage to 10-0 and putting the game firmly out of reach.

Brooklyn showed fight in the bottom half of the inning, scoring four runs on a string of hits from Jazlyn Roberts, Young, Victoria Elderbaum, and Julia Corcoran, but it was too little, too late.

Iglesias (2-0) earned the win, contributing both in the circle and at the plate with three RBIs. Ogden returned in relief to shut things down, tossing 2.1 scoreless innings.

Offensively, John Jay totaled 10 hits in game two, with Fajardo and Graham each recording multi-hit games, while Santana and Iglesias drove in key runs. Adrianna Barragan also added two hits and scored twice.

Brooklyn once again matched John Jay in hits (10), with Addy Cook leading the way with a three-hit performance.

The Bloodhounds continue their road trip on Saturday as they square off against Farmingdale State on April 4 at noon.
